Breed Notes - 27 Jun 2013
As a result of another “conference call” committee meeting, plans are nearing completion for the Club weekend at the end of September. This year the Show itself is on the Saturday, September 28th, and we are back to our usual venue at Oswestry, Shropshire. We are privileged to have as our judge Michael Kunze, who I believe is the top judge for the IHF at the moment. We saw him judging when we went to the Czech Club Show a couple of years ago, when he was doing the main bitch classes, and I think we are in for a really interesting show. I hope that I will be able to give you a bit more of a profile of the man himself in the next week or two. Our obedience judge is our very own Maggie Spencer, who in the well-known phrase “needs no introduction”….at least the top obedience prize will have a new home this time!

The three special lunchtime classes, at the “show within a show” that the KC have sanctioned to give judges “on the up” more opportunities to add to their experiences, are being judged by Craig Hosie. Exhibitors can enter these classes provided they are entered in the main show as well, but there won’t be a BoB, and wins or defeats in the special classes won’t be counted when it comes to the challenges for Best Dog and Best Bitch, and indeed Best in Show. I think this is an exciting development that will add greatly to the day, and it will be interesting to compare placings made by the two judges. I suppose, though, it will mean that Craig will have to stay away from the ringside, in the morning at least.

On the Sunday, the Club are holding a breed seminar just up the road from Oswestry, at Nesscliffe village hall, and Michael Kunze will lead the programme, starting at 10 o’clock. This should be a “must attend” for everyone with any interest in the breed, as it will be a very rare opportunity to gain greater knowledge of our wonderful dogs. There will be lunch available afterwards, and attendance certificates will be issued. In the afternoon there is a judging assessment, by invitation (places have already been allocated, I’m afraid). If that would interest you, please let us know, because with sufficient candidates, a similar event could be stage in the future. Full details are available from Ann on 01253 821070 and Gill on 01939 260765, or get in touch with me and I can give you a bit more information. All in all, this looks like being another exciting Hovawart weekend….what are we going to do in 2014, after this and last year’s IHF conference? Expectations will be running high!!
