Breed Notes - 13 Nov 2016
Starting this week with news from the obedience world that Janice with Lexi, her posh name Zwartbos Moet has won out of Beginners in obedience at Preston beating another 31 dogs. What an excellent achievement in such a competitive field, Janice and Lexi has had a good year as she got a working trials qualification as well which I had mentioned in previous notes. The team work and time training that goes into being able to work at this standard has paid off, so a very well done to you both.

I got my car back this week after it was off the road which mean’t I had missed working breeds of Scotland last week and as reported on the group success with Ellen and Bella it was lovely to pick up the dog papers this week and see a lovely Picture of Bella standing and a critique by the group judge on her placings. It was special for Ellen and Thomas, but also for everybody who loves the breed as well. Val and Steve Shone will be proud of Bella and Lexi as they bred both these dogs who have achieved so much in their chosen fields. Good news this week on Hovawarts Uk facebook that Mark and Becky Harrison’s lovely girl Abbie was given good news at a specialist Oncologist in Solihull after a recent health scare with regards to a lump they had found on her. She is a young bitch that they imported as a puppy and what makes Abbie special is that she is also a working dog for SARDA and trains with Mark on a regular basis. It is excellent to have Hovawarts out there working in this area as they seem to do well in it.

I went along to Gundog Breeds of Scotland as I was stewarding at the weekend and had the pleasure to steward for a Finnish judge and we had an interesting conversation about the Hovawart as she has judged the breed many times in her home country as well as others. She was happy to share her observations with regards to the breed and how she felt the standard of the Finnish Hovawarts were of a high quality. Talking of shows , schedules are out for some of the 2017 shows and I will share with you the judges that we have. Manchester CH show in January we have 3 mixed classes and our judge is MR T D Mather, this is our last show to qualify for Crufts so hopefully this will allow some of the recent pups that were born to qualify. Entries close 7th December or the 14th online. We have National Working & Pastoral breeds open show in Coventry on the 11th February with entries closing 12th January and online 19th. We have three mixed classes for breed specialist Gina Challoner, it would be nice if Gina could get a good entry so please try and enter. The next show with Hovawart classes that the on line schedule is available is the National Dog Show in May held at Stafford ,with 6 classes and our judge is Mr Ben Reynolds-Frost and finally Bath Canine Society CH show in May who has scheduled classes for the first time for Hovawarts and with 11 classes for breed specialist Gill Stockton . Let’s try and support this show both for Gill and Bath Canine Society as it was good of them to provide classes for us , as South Wales who put classes on for us this year for the first time never got a good entry. All the above show’s can be accessed via Higham Press. As soon as other judges and shows are announced I will let you know. To finish with a warm welcome to Murray & Hester Oxborrow who is now living in Scotland and I believe are settling in to their new home. I am hoping to catch up and have a chat. Any news please drop me a line.
