For the first time for ages, we stayed on to watch all 3 groups. The big ring looked magnificent, and it was certainly an occasion, but it did occur to me that the public announcement of both the judge for a breed, and the entry numbers might just be prejudicial/beneficial to a dog’s chances. After all, the choice of someone the group judge admires could be more difficult to ignore, and the best from 200 is likely to be “better” than the best of 10. In any event, DJ acquitted himself well in the Working group, but didn’t make the cut, in spite of our grandchildren whistling and clapping like a dozen enthusiasts. I think the bag of doughnuts also helped the atmosphere. One thing, though, that we always seem to say after the Welsh show….Lovely showground, shame about the lack of signage, it always is difficult to work out where anything is, and, for our breed at least, it feels like we are somewhere different every year.
The schedules are out for the Club Show on October 4th (Sunday). Our judge will be Stuart Mallard, and I notice that this year, the veteran classes are split, special veteran for 7-10, and special vintage for over 10.Often the veteran bitch class has been biggest of the day, so I hope that this new idea will encourage even more entries. I also notice that the calendar will be available again, and can be pre-ordered with the entry, which should make life a lot easier. Julie tells me the photos for it are good again, and she hopes to maintain a correct balance between the colours. Ann is again on hand with the bacon butties…I must try to get one this year, we always seem to be busy at the critical moment.
