HOVAWART BREED NOTES
More sad news to write about this week. Hoffen Hills Hluma de Noir (Sona) had to be euthanized last week, she was 14 years old, which is a simply wonderful age, and I know she was adored by her owner Mark in Scotland. Our condolences go to him. Sona was imported from Sweden along with Hoffen Hills Hla’Drilla De Noir (Jez) by Min Inches in Scotland under the “Bali” agreement, something she swears she will never do again (and happily almost certainly won’t have to)! The puppies were traumatised and needed much rehabilitation and this they both found in the caring knowledgeable hands of Mark Tyreman and Penny Miles. Youngsters coming into our breed nowadays can’t imagine the trouble we had to go to importing a youngster into the UK – with varying degrees of success.
On a much lighter subject I have seen a super new print of three Hovawart heads painted by the young lady owner of one of Liz and Lynne’s Driftingsky litter, Laura Wright. She is coming to the IHF weekend in October, where she will have a stand where this picture can be seen, and hopefully prints purchased. All three colours are represented, so it should please every owner. I for one am putting 50p’s in a pot.
Last weekend it was The Welsh Ch. Show at Builth Wells, and surprisingly enough although we had had buckets of rain, the ground was quite firm if you looked where you were walking. As usual we were last in the ring, but entries generally were quite low and we got started about 3.00 pm. Our Acorn (Pines Acorn)was BoB, with Gill’s Chalkie (Berkenbos Chinook) BoS, and Ann’s Farica (Annvad Lady Farica) was BP. The judge was Jeff Luscott, who always makes it pleasant for all the exhibitors. Liz let John loose with her rather splendid camera. I have seen the results yet, but I’m expecting quite a lot of close-ups of grass.
I don’t entirely understand Face Book, but there is a group on it called “Hovawarts Family” that has lots of people from all over involved, and there are plenty of pictures of Hovawarts at play as well as at shows, and puppies and so on. There seems to be some automatic system at work, because it was John’s birthday on Sunday (I had him out of the house at 6 am to go to a working trial…but that’s another story!), and there were greetings from lots of members of this “Family”…how did they know? The internet is still a bit of a mystery to me.
Talking of the internet, for the first time the Club show schedule and entry form are available on line, at www.cidweb.co.uk .This is a bold initiative from the club, so I hope everyone will make it a success. I heard from Gill that most of the delegates for the conference have now booked, so it finally looks as though things are actually going to happen. It has been a long time in the planning, that’s for sure. Gill also mentioned that there is an IHF trophy for Best in Show, so get those entries flooding in as soon as possible, and let’s make this the biggest and best we have ever had.
