Breed Notes - 8 Jul 2014
My visit from the area KC Assured Breeder Scheme came this morning, a nice young lady called Lucy, who talked me through all the various questions that the KC ask you to answer. Things like, and I quote, what is your policy on selling puppies in order to determine whether the home is suitable? What is first port of call for a novice pet home who enquires about the characteristics of our breed etc. It was very much more thorough than previous interviews, (we have had two before, at three yearly intervals) I have no idea how I got on, but will be informed in 6 – 8 weeks – I can’t wait! I have say that Lucy was very nice, well into her beardie collies, and knowledgeable about all the aspects of dog owning, showing, and breeding. Part of the interview was conducted outside, and the kennels, grooming, and breeding areas were all inspected and photographed for our file back at KC base camp. I was so pleased it was a bright sunny day, when everything looks so much nicer. Two hours and two cups of coffee later Lucy departed with a pile of completed forms and several pictures in her telephone.
I am pleased with some new tick repellent, called Advantix ,given to me by Stephen and Kathy from Ireland. It is a spot-on solution that eliminates ticks, fleas, and biting lice. It also repels mosquitos, sandflies, and stable flies. After talking to my friend Tanya, (GSDs) who had a small lump on her back for several years that she ignored, I began to realize that this is NOT the way to go. Her own daughter carefully removed this little lump of black, and bingo – all the joint aches that Tanya had been suffering with for the previous two years vanished immediately!!! Not rheumatism as diagnosed by the specialist – only the onset of Lymes disease caused by a tick bite. I am very careful and check the girls on returning from walks in long grass and crops to spot the odd tick – just to be on the safe side.

Love this sunshine don’t you? Long may it last.
