Hovawart Breed Notes - 22 Jul 2014
With the afternoons being too hot to do much outside this week I have been sitting in the office trying to get to grips with my three chapters of the updated “Book of the Hovawart” which the club, with the expert help of Nick Boisseau, as editor, is trying to get printed. This hopefully, will be sold to any new prospective owners, or given as part of the puppy pack to a new owner. You think there can’t be much to know, mostly common sense, until you start typing and then pages fly on and on and on. My allotted chapters were three, four and eight, more than enough and Nick will have his work cut out in reducing it to a sensible amount. If you have any photographs that illustrate any particular experience, training, or interesting point please do forward them to Nick at helenandnick@hotmail.com - hopefully the pictures will make it more interesting, and it is important that everybody has some input, as it is the work of no one person, but the club in general.
It was super having a chat with a very chipper Ann Travis today. After the kidney operation, she had a few problems, but she tells me she is now back at work part-time, and is very much hoping to make it to Paington early next month. Dave, too, is making excellent progress, and it will be wonderful to see them both out and about again.
The Dog World has reported on top dog etc. Julie’s Gunner (Zwartbos Carisbroke) is leading the field at the halfway stage, with, I think, his sire German Ch.Igor vom der Hofreite top stud dog. Top brood bitch is Ann’s Veronika (Berkenbos Annvad’s Choice), mother to Farica and Grizelda.
I believe Julie can still accept photographs for the calendar, but the deadline looms very large indeed. Please make every effort, particularly in this lovely weather, to get those special shots off to her pronto. Don’t forget that your Hovawart very probably won’t care for the very hot conditions, so try to arrange that cool and shady spot for him or her.
