Breed Notes - 28 Oct 2015
This is normally a time of year when things start to quieten down a bit, but there are still a couple of shows coming up with breed classes, firstly Working & Pastoral Breeds of Scotland a week on Saturday with judge G. Lewthwaite, and the following weekend our own Maggie Spencer is taking to the ring for Camberley CS., not to mention the LKA, which used to be such a good do, with Christmas parties at most of the benches….such a pity that has been stopped now…but it is still a good place to get those special doggy Christmas presents. Moving on to 2016 (I can hardly believe I’m writing this !), schedules are out for Manchester Ch. Show, at Stafford on Saturday January 16, where our judge is Kari Jarvinen from Finland. This is the last qualifying show for Crufts 2016, so don’t forget that entries close in early December. The following month, on February 13th, there is the popular National Working and Pastoral Open Show, where our judge is Stella Coombes (Mystarz) who will be remembered for officiating at the rare breeds event the club staged in conjunction with the AGM more than ten years ago. I don’t think anyone who was there will forget that day, but Stella certainly helped to pour oil on troubled waters at the time.

Strangely enough, I had another reminder of that day when I heard about the passing of Kyla (Mainsgaird Caol Ila) at the wonderful age of 16 years and 75 days. She went with Doctors Drew and Rees to Tasmania several years ago, and they must have some wonderful memories of such an amazing girl. Hovawarts living that long gives us all a boost, I think.

Anne Stewart was over from Ireland at the weekend with the puppies from Silkie’s litter that are going to reside on the British mainland, and we have already received excited emails and seen some super pictures of them in their new homes. The new Hovawarts UK group gives us the opportunity to follow progress almost daily. Sometimes it feels as though you know other people’s dogs almost as well as you know your own.
