Breed Notes - 18 Nov 2015
Firstly, some sad news from Scotland, the Watson family have had to say goodbye to their beloved Clyde (Kynyaf Seti) after a long period in decline, when he could finally no longer use his back legs and the family took that awful but right decision to save him further suffering and degradation. He was just 3 months short of his 14th birthday, which is wonderful for a big dog like him. Of course, it brought back memories of our own wonderful Orchid, his litter sister. Clyde was really the archetypal cuddly black bear of a dog, reluctantly shown but nevertheless my best dog at Scottish Working Breeds in 2009.followed by a trip south to Crufts in 2010, where he came 2nd to Biko, Nikki Douglas’ multi-champion, in veteran dog. I remember so well Maureen, who was an airhostess, arriving at our house, totally glamourous in work gear and changing into jeans etc for us to collect our puppies. Happy memories, which I am sure Clyde’s family will cherish over the years.

Last Sunday, Maggie Spencer had an entry of 13 to judge at Camberley and District Canine Society, the second biggest entry in the working group, fifth in the whole show, and I know she was a bit apprehensive beforehand, but it certainly didn’t show as she exuded confidence both in going over the dogs and making placements. BoB was our Pines Acorn with BP going to Caron & John McLure’s Kanukalos’ Burletta. Sadly, the ring was rather cramped, being in the car park, hemmed in by cars, and moving the dogs was restricted somewhat, but at least we were outdoors, rather than in the extremely gloomy Leisure Centre. I know venues are hard to find, but it will be a long time before I would take a dog back to that one.

If you get a chance, do have a read of the judge’s critique of the Obedience classes at our recent show. It is on the Club website now, and somewhat unusually in my experience of that discipline, judge Chris Moss has written an amusing helpful and encouraging account of the dogs she had competing under her. I am only sorry that I was too busy on the day to take part, as I should have been eager to get her opinion of the effort my dog and I put in.
