On Friday 3rd July at Boston and District Canine Society Championship Show, Loraine Ratter awarded Best of Breed and Best Veteran to Mrs C and Mr J Mclure’s Kanukalos Burletta, Reserve Best Bitch was Mrs C and Mr J Mclure’s Hightimbers Ticket To Dream At Kanukalos. Best Dog went to Mrs C and Mr J Mclure’s Pines Mansion At Kanukalos. Reserve Best Dog was Miss L Campbell’s Brandanerhof Aragon.
On Saturday 11th July is the National Working and Pastoral Breeds Championship Show at The Three Counties Showground, Malvern WR13 6NW. The Hovawart judge is Ms Daniela Pinto Tranquada who has an entry of 8 Hovawarts. They are in Ring 11 after 30 Alaskan Malamutes with judging starting at 9am.
What do you do with your Hovie on a weekend? On Saturday we were Mantrailing and on Sunday I went for a walk around The National Trust’s Winkworth Arboretum with Shiraz and Chianti, even though its only 15mins from where I live it’s about 20 years since I last went there! They have a large new Visitors Centre with a Dog Friendly Cafe, the car park was very busy but once you got away from there it was a very pleasant walk, a few steep bits, I didn’t hang about as it was getting warm, but at least being an Arboretum most of the walking was in the shade of the trees. The plus side is that all dogs need to be on a short lead, so no unwanted interaction with loose dogs. Yes it’s great to let your dog off lead and mine do get everyday walks when they can “run” but it is also good to take them out and just remind them that they can just walk past people, dogs, children running, shouting, playing ball and just having to either sit and watch or walk pass without making any fuss. We do it when they are puppies take them everywhere for socialisation but as with all training it doesn’t hurt to give them a reminder now and then.
