International Hovawart Federation (IHF)

The International Hovawart Federation (IHF) consists of 16 breed clubs from 16 countries from Europe and North America.

There are two major aims for the IHF,

  • Firstly, to maintain only one Hovawart type that is universal, with no country-specific differences.
  • And secondly to maintain the Hovawart in accordance with the breed standard as a healthy and spirited working dog.

In 1996, the HCGB was elected to be an associate member of the IHF (the UK Kennel Club does not allow affiliated clubs to join other organisations) and has been an active participant since then, sending delegates to the annual conference almost every year and successfully participating in the associated shows.

Here is a video with a lot more information about the IHF. It also highlights the amazing capabilities of our wonderful breed. You might spot some of our very own Hovawarts and club members if you look hard!
